New Delhi: Indian Union Minister for Railways Mamta Banerjee on Friday presented the Indian Railway Budget-2009 for the year 2009-10. She is the first female Railway Minister in Indian history. After being in hands of former Railway Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav, this time this ministry came in hands of Trinamool Congress (TMC) Supremo Mamata Banerjee who promised to serve her best for it. She is supporting Manmohan Singh led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) after an emphatic win in West bengal.As expected, Mamata presented a passenger friendly rail budget in against of ministry’s profit. Many new schemes along with new railway routes and trains are also introduced in this Railway Budget 2009.
So here are the Highlights of Indian Railway Budget-2009
- No change in Passenger rates and freight rates
- Launched ‘Izzat' Scheme in which fare will be Rs 25 for travel up to 100 km for poors. (Earning less than Rs 1500/month)
- 50 world class stations to be developed which will have big shopping complexes
- Automatic train information systems to be modified more
- Special Focus on passenger safety, security
- Trains to get shortly infotainment services like Television and radios
- All accredited journalists along with their spouses to get 50% concession
Along with these announcements, there are announcements like enhancement of automatic ticketing system, new coaches, routes and new railway hospitals along with Medical colleges were made.
